libhamcrest-java has been built and eclipse 3.5.2-5 is building. It will
take some hours (one or two days) until it will available in your
mirror.

[Bug 603656] Re: [maverick] Package "eclipse" has broken dependencies.

2010-08-16 Thread James Hogarth
3.5 would still be beneficial in the repositories regardless of 3.6 for
developers whilst the kinks are worked out on 3.6

For example see http://developer.android.com/sdk/eclipse-adt.html where
ADT is not yet working on 3.6 and google advise devs to remain on 3.5
for the time being

IMHO the next release (11.04) would be better than 10.10 for eclipse 3.6
... or an alternative package later on.

Sorting out the issue with libhamcrest-java (testng in universe and not
main but a build dependency exists for libhamcrest-java on testng) would
be more beneficial as that would get eclipse 3.5 sorted on Maverick
now... probably better than a major version change now we are in feature
freeze.

If you offer to fix a compiling error, we can try to get Eclipse 3.6
into maverick. Please talk to bdrung and nthykier in IRC channel
#debian-java on OTFC if you have ant knowledge and like digging through
big build logs.

[Bug 603656] Re: [maverick] Package "eclipse" has broken dependencies.

2010-08-13 Thread James Hogarth
Testng was changed to the 'fix committed' state on the 15th July and
version 5.11+dfsg-1 appears in Maverick Universe. However the last
attempted build date of libhamcrest-java on the 27th showed the testng
package as missing still... and this is the blocker on the eclipse
package being built...

What's the hold up at this point? Should maverick testers just assume
eclipse from the repos will not be usable and locally install it from
the eclipse site instead?

libhamcrest-java is architecture independent. It will be build on i386

[Bug 603656] Re: [maverick] Package "eclipse" has broken dependencies.

2010-07-29 Thread fejes
Thanks Benjamin - I very much appreciate that you took the time to
reply.

Just so I'm clear on what's going on, following the link you provided,
it seems that eclipse 3.5.2-5 is waiting to build for AMD64 because it
is dependent on the libhamcrest-java library (>= 1.1-8~). However, from
the libhamcrest-java page ( https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/libhamcrest-java/1.1-8 ), it appears that the libhamcrest-java package
(which you uploaded the current version two days ago) will only ever be
built for the i386 architecture.

That suggests to me that AMD64 users should just download eclipse from
the web and not wait for ubuntu's package. Is that the best way to
proceed, or have I completely misunderstood what's going on?

I am still getting this message, and both this bug and #600626 are both
marked as fix committed. Is there something else that needs to be
changed to install eclipse?

A newer version of eclipse (3.5.2-5) was uploaded, which fixes this bug.
This version requires libhamcrest-java 1.1-8, which is blocked by bug
#600626. Once bug #600626 is fixed, you will be able to install eclipse
again.
