I have seen two kinds of progress indicators in others distributions: Firt is graphical and I think it is done with splashy. this is especially a problem if you , like me, sometimes encounter problems with hibernating and can not see in any way apart from disk activity if it is still working or not. This way i have to wait every time until the 4GB of RAM are written to disk until i can put the Laptop into the bag or leave it.
