2011-10-13 Thread Frank Hall
I had the same error, so based on comments here I viewed the end of the
apt log file, /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log. There I found that
nspluginwrapper was held, so I removed nspluginwrapper via Synaptic
(realizing I could have used 'sudo apt-get remove nspluginwrapper'),
which also removed flashplugin. This fixed my problem, and I hope it
helps fix yours.

The bug reporter software says to include the files in /var/log/dist-

  Considering xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 2 as a solution to libdrm-nouveau1 17
Upgrading xserver-xorg-video-nouveau due to Breaks field in libdrm-nouveau1
Investigating xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau has broken Depends on xorg-video-abi-8.0
  Considering xserver-xorg-core 79 as a solution to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 2
Holding Back xserver-xorg-video-nouveau rather than change xorg-video-abi-8.0
Done
Log time: 2010-11-26 14:13:58.961382

I simply removed the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau which also wanted to
remove the xserver-xorg-video-all package which I let it do then the
upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 worked fine.

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers,

Seb

2010-11-13 Thread Valentin Yurin
My addition: trying a respin of Ubuntu 10.04 on a blank x86_64 system.
The same error comes shortly after installing the system and
removing/adding a few packages. Reinstall of xorg-server-video-all and
xorg-server-input-all does not help. Thus the problem seems to have
deeper roots in the past and probably longer consequences in the future.

Which logfiles should I provide for quicker resolution?

[Bug 606652] Re: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

2010-11-12 Thread rflores
Hi Atanas Atanasov. What about if your install package ubuntu-desktop?

I had same problem, looking at main.log revealed that ubuntu-desktop
package was not installed, what caused dependencies being broken.

After installing ubuntu-desktop, release upgrade was OK.

2010-11-12 Thread ClareM
I had a look at my main.log and it looks like my error is triggered when
I get to this point Installing 'xserver-xorg-video-all' (Distro
KeepInstalledPkgs rule) then it fails.

I have managed to overcome this problem by uninstalling xorg-server-
video-all and xorg-server-input-all, upgrading then reinstalling them.
Give it a try.

I'm having an almost identical issue, I cannot update to 10.10 from 10.04 LTS
because of the error:
E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

2010-10-14 Thread Medya
I had upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 previously by the same method, perhaps
thats the reason ?

Another guy who had this error had upgraded 9.10 to 10.04 before 10.04
to 10.10

Thanks for your report.

Does this error occurs during an upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 ? If so
could you please attach the files in the directory /var/log/dist-
upgrade/ to this report as separate attachments ? Thank s in advance.
