Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vlc
When listening to certain long (around 75 minutes) MP3s of radio broadcasts, randomly during the playback VLC will abruptly emit a horrible static type sound instead of the audio and promptly chew up all available memory (several gigs) until the system grinds to a halt. Sometimes it will just do the memory leak without the static sound, sometimes pausing and hitting play again causes the static sound to start (which can be fixed by hitting pause then play again) without the memory leak.
