Hi Gareth, I'm afraid I've no longer access to this server again and it did not happen again. I'd say it can be removed/marked solved, either due to strange circumstances at the time or a fix in a new update. Here is a dmesg from the machine. As you can see from the last 5-6 lines the network cable is unplugged to get it too boot, and then plugged back in where it functions again. The server has 2 ethernet ports, different chipsets, the active one we use is Realtek, while the unused one is a NVidia. Booted the server using the liveCD and it did detect the NVidia one first.
