[Bug 622920] Re: Intersil ISL3887 cannot connect to wireless network with latest Ubuntu

2012-02-21 Thread Björn Harrtell
I'm having issues with an USB wifi stick with Intersil ISL3887 chipset
on Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit with installed firmware for wifi.

I get as far as successfully connecting and auth (using WPA2-PSK) but
within seconds I get the following in syslog:

wlan0: deauthenticated from c4:3d:c7:97:79:69 (Reason: 2)

This is followed by disconnection and endless retries.

But the wireless card did function on that USB 1.1 machine when using
Windows XP so the device itself is not incompatible with 1.1 speed,
apparently.

[Bug 622920] Re: Intersil ISL3887 cannot connect to wireless network with latest Ubuntu

2010-08-30 Thread thewk
Okay, this is strange. I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 LTS, the wireless
did not function after the update, but when I did install linux-
firmware-nonfree the wireless started to work and it connected to the
network. The big (?) difference in this situation is that my older
computer where it did not work, had USB 1.1 ports and this one has 2.0.
The motherboard is ASUS A7V333-X.

[Bug 622920] Re: Intersil ISL3887 cannot connect to wireless network with latest Ubuntu

2010-08-29 Thread thewk
Hi, sorry that it took so long for me to reply. I now have "new"
machine, sold the previous one, I still have the wireless card. I now
have Ubuntu 9.10 because I couldn't obtain 10.04 at the moment, the
wireless card works out of the box with this version, no need to even
install linux-firmware-nonfree. I will try to upgrade to 10.04 and then
tell what happened.

This is likely an issue with the driver for the card. The driver is part
of the Linux Ubuntu package.

** Package changed: linux-firmware-nonfree (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)

2010-08-23 Thread MarcRandolph
Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve Ubuntu by opening this
ticket. Is there any way to try either with 10.04 on the current
machine, or on the old machine with 10.04.1 to help determine if this is
truly a regression?
