I also have then feeling, that it might be related to flashviewer, as
90% of the time I am watching a flash movie.

[Bug 630122] Re: Gnome UI becomes unresponsive after a few minutes

2010-09-06 Thread derLars
Thanks, Kurt - seems like a long way debugging this.

I've deactivated compiz without any luck, so my guess was wrong. I'll go
through the X-Troubleshooting list now.

> When did it happen first?
After having upgraded from Lucid to Maverick 10.10 Beta (amd64).

> How often?
Depends - sometimes right after login, sometimes it's okay for two hours or so

> Open lots of applications?
No - last freeze was with chromium open only and disabled compiz.

> Heavy switching between desktops or vts
No.

> Suspend/resume
No, Computer was on from boot until today without any usage at all. When coming
back from work, it froze a few minutes after opening chromium.

> Visiting particular web pages or loading particular files
Might be possible that every time I was on some kind of flash page.

> Signs in dmesg (Radeon, supposed to be something with GPU)?
Nope. But the GPU does not really freeze, as inputs from keyboard are okay.

> Apport noticed anything?
Nope - and no messages I can see in the Xorg.0.log showing problems either.

> Freeze after Login (deactivate compiz)?
Done, but no good - still freezes.

> EQ overflowing?
Nope

Next up: Bisecting and subsystem checking.. *sigh*

[Bug 630122] Re: Gnome UI becomes unresponsive after a few minutes

2010-09-04 Thread derLars
Even more information: While I can still use they keyboard to control
the last application I used after the freeze is happening, as well as
starting the "run application"-dialog, I am unable to use ALT+TAB to
change the application. This might indicate a problem with compiz, as
I'm using the application switcher plugin.

[Bug 630122] Re: Gnome UI becomes unresponsive after a few minutes

2010-09-04 Thread derLars
further information: when the UI crashes, I can still completely use the
keyboard to control programs. when I tried to run "gksudo restart gdm"
through the "run-application"-dialog (ALT+F2), gksudo crashed - but I
could see an error message for a section, that gksudo could get control
over the mouse and something about the possibility of a harmful program
preventing it or something (sorry for being unspecific here, it closed
too fast).

in lucid, I had installed a program called btnx to use the other keys of
my wireless mouse (a usb, wireless logitech revolutions mx) but purged
it from the system when I saw some crashes of the program.

As this basically means that I have to restart gdm every hour or so,
this bug makes the system a real pain to work on, so any help is greatly
appreciated.
