The external HD is in an enclosure that connects using a PC Card
providing USB 3.0 to my laptop. I can connect to the drive using USB 2.0
successfully without a problem. The drive is formatted (FAT) and
encrypted using the encryption option when I formatted the drive.

>From the lspci command it looks like the module xhci is used to address
this device. When I copy files to the hard disk, it will start to copy
but after a while fail with I/O errors.

I do not have another USB 3.0 port that I could test this with, so I do
not know whether it is the PC Card or a USB 3.0 driver issue. I would
appreciate any help resolving this issue.
