[Bug 631028] Re: Needs to have HP C410a added
To make scanning work, you need to connect the printer either via a network connection facility built into the printer, an original HP JetDirect network print box, or via USB. Connecting it via a third-party print box, like the print server facility of a router will not make the scanner available. In addition, you have to set up your print queue using HPLIP's "hp" backend. In system-config-printer (System -> Administration -> Printing) after clicking the "Add" button the add- printer wizard pops up. On its first page you select your printer on the left (if it is network-connected, you have to wait some time until the printer appears under "Network Printer"). On the right there must be written something like HPLIP software driving a printer or the printer part of a multi-function device If this is not the case, click on "Connection" at the bottom and choose "HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP)". If this is also not possible, the printer is connected via an incompatible network device or HPLIP does not recognize it as a supported model. If you can set it up correctly, scanning should work immediately, Simply start xsane or simple-scan. To answer Naga's question abobe, please connect your printer with a USB cable. -- Needs to have HP C410a added https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/631028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can you please connect your printer through USB and run "lsusb". Identify BUS ID and Device ID. run "hp-setup -g BUS-ID:Device-ID" and post the output. [Bug 631028] Re: Needs to have HP C410a added
I am doing exactly that, so far: using the C309a driver, and I anticipate that it should not be hard to get the additional change for the C410a for exactly the reasons you state. HOWEVER, while I am able to do basic printing, so far, I have been entirely unable to get network scanning to work using SANE, with any of Karmic, Lucid or Maverick. Should I open that as a separate bug now, or wait for C410a "official" support? According to http://hplipopensource.com/hplip- web/models/photosmart/photosmart_c309a_series.html, scanning should work over a network connection, not just USB. I can see the scanner posted to mDNS, it works with the Macs here, but not with SANE, even after manually adding the IP to net.conf. As an aside, please note that in order to use the C309a driver, I had to update HPLIP from a PPA for Karmic (I have Karmic, Lucid and Maverick currently installed). I'll double-check karmic backports, but users should not have to update a still supported OS release just to handle a new printer. :-) Finally, is there a reason for marking the report as "incomplete"? :-) -- Needs to have HP C410a added https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/631028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 631028] Re: Needs to have HP C410a added
HP is very regularly updating their driver package including the new models. So most probably your printer will soon be supported. Note that HP's range of printers consists of only a few groups with printers which are compatible with each other. So in most cases using a driver of a predecessor makes an HP printer work for the time being. So simply try the driver for the C309a for now. ** Also affects: hplip Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: hplip Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: hplip (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- Needs to have HP C410a added https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/631028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
