In the 10.10 shotwell package, this is _not_ fixed (for me): The patch that is missing from the ubuntu package is describet in comment #27 of yorba bug 2370: http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/2370#comment:27 The fix consists in requesting the user_photos permission in the authorization request (src/FacebookConnector.vala, line 667) It would be great to fix this in the 10.10 ubuntu package! Thanks Shahar for the hint, I am not quite sure how / whether this allows me to mark the bug as open for the maverick version (0.7.2) while keeping it fixed for other versions. I don't seem to be able add a specific version of ubuntu or the shotwell package to the also affects list. I guess I just need to read throught the launchpad docs more carefully... Hi Michael, Fix released means that the bug is fixed in the latest Ubuntu version... so that is the correct status here. If you're interested in getting the fix applied to an older version of Ubuntu, then you have two options: 1) Request a stable-release update (SRU)... meaning that a patch will be applied to the older package. This is normally only done in exceptional cases, when a bug is causing a big problem for a lot of users. The rationale is basically better the devil you know, in that it's better to accept the existence of a few well-documented bugs than it is to take the risk of introducing new problems by modifying the code. Hi Alex, thank you for the explanations! I don't think that it would be useful to backport newer packages to maverick. I personally would like request a SRU, since firstly, it potentially affects every user publishing to facebook (when the user has not yet authorized the shotwell connector and lets shotwell do the authorization request, which I assume is standard), and secondly, the patch documented in the upstream bug is minimal (one addition in one line) and has no sideeffect other than requesting one additional authorization. I am adding the patch as an attachment. According to the shotwell upstream bug, the patch has been added to the upstream trunk, but the bug does not tell into which bugfix release the patch had been added (if any). Hi, We at Yorba, the upstream providers of Shotwell, aren't opposed to an SRU since the patch is virtually zero risk. That said, doing an SRU on Shotwell 0.7.2 might not be the best use of the Ubuntu maintainers' time. After all, the Shotwell 0.7.x family is now three generations old (the current release of Shotwell is 0.10.1). What's more, the latest Shotwell release is easily available in binary form for both Natty and Maverick from the Yorba PPA here: https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ppa. Just my two cents. Hi I just built the source from trunk following those instructions. Help-About now says Shotwell 0.7.2+trunk - it's the first time I've built Shotwell from source, I admit. I found a new section to the Publish dialog that allows me to control the privacy of the photos I publish to Facebook, but the ability to choose an existing album is still greyed out. Hi Pablomme, What version of F-Spot are you referring to? The last time I looked at the F-Spot Facebook Uploader (which, admittedly, was about six months ago), F-Spot was using the traditional Facebook Client Login API for authentication and permissions management, whereas Shotwell uses the newer Facebook Connect API (see http://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/108 for an overview of Facebook Connect). The newer Facebook Connect API used by Shotwell has a lot of nice features, so I'm not sure we'd want to downgrade the authentication model that we use just to solve this problem. Ideally, we can solve this problem while continuing to use Connect for authentication.
