I found the same problem, and the black list did the trick. I contacted ASUS and they informed me they do not support systems other than Microsoft. This kind of remark from ASUS should encourage all Linux community to back-list Asus itself as provider. I already did it with Canon printers and scanners for the same reason!! Black listing did the trick. I contacted ASUS to find out when they plan to fix their driver, and they told me they do not support anything but windows. Does anyone else have a fix that allows the fans to be monitored? I had the same problem with a P7P55D-E-Premium mother board running 64 bit versions of both Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. No issue with Ubuntu 9.10. Switching to a USB mouse would make the mouse work but of course not the keyboard. I understand the asus_atk0110 driver gives information for the fans. After trying a few things I think I have tracked this down to a problem with the module asus_atk0110. Since blacklisting this module the behavior has not come back. If I put the module back in, I see the problem again. There are references on the web that for an Asus P7P55D motherboard this driver does not have the correct bios memory mapping. As another note, when the lock-up did occur, looking at /proc/interrupts, int 12 failed to update.
