jimlovell777, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. It does now boot the latest Ubuntu 15.10 (and 16.04 Daily Snapshot) 95% of the time without issue. When it boots to the Desktop, it looks like the picture I posted. Not sure if I should do anything with this bug at this point but I still have this computer and I tried installing Ubuntu 15.10 on it. A lot of things that used to not work with Ubuntu now do and that's encouraging but the graphics still look like the image I posted in comment #10. Using Windows with only built in drivers the screen looks normal. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you attempt to run the following command in Hardy from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). Hi, I've been helping jim on #ubuntu+1 - the IMG_0490,1,2 are photos of the oops in kmem_cache_alloc_notrace (on init) and a general protection fault in init. He said Hardy worked for him but nothing more modern has; it's encouraging that the live CD boots OK though.
