[Bug 637357] Re: Touchpad recognized as ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse ASUS 1015PED

2011-09-26 Thread Ed S
Then again, the driver downloads for windows
http://usa.asus.com/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_1015PED/#download
implies that this model has an ElanTech touchpad.

My problem in bug 755518 relates to a machine where the similar evidence
points to a Synaptics touchpad.

In any case, we need the same kind of attention which bug 550625 is
getting today, for an ALPS touchpad: for which one needs a Windows
driver and a laptop, in the hands of a motivated linux driver developer.

[Bug 637357] Re: Touchpad recognized as ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse ASUS 1015PED

2011-09-26 Thread Ed S
I think this might be same as the open and confirmed bug 755518

I'm trying to get traction on that bug - it would be good if you could
add your evidence to it, especially as you are using Asus EEE which is a
more popular brand than mine (but an older model)

One difference is that you report the touchpad is detected as
ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse
by ubuntu 10.04 - I'm seeing 10.10 detect as
ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse
but perhaps that's the OS difference, not a hardware difference.

[Bug 637357] Re: Touchpad recognized as ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse ASUS 1015PED

2010-10-14 Thread funicorn
I have the same problem. And I don't understand why such a serious issue
not respected by the Ubuntu Team.

I ran into this problem in Ubuntu 10.04 and the problem still there in
Ubuntu 10.10. The problem leads to terrible touchpad performance on a
laptop , for example, synclient does not work to avoid improper
behaviors of touchpad during typing, and the alps multi-touch advantage
disappear, etc.

I really hope the Ubuntu Development Team should stop focusing on the
meaningless trifles like changing the color
of wallpapers, inventing fuzzy-headed ways of exhibiting ugly startup images,
and make effort to solve the real problems that bother their customers.

[Bug 637357] Re: Touchpad recognized as ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse ASUS 1015PED

2010-09-21 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi drew212,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
