I can confirm yet on 10.10, VMware Workstation 7.1.3 build-324285. To test that under Natty, you need to use the -k option (--no-kiosk- warning). Using: UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= vmplayer -k one can see the menus that are absent of the global menubar. This is another "Me too" comment. The only bit of info I can provide is that both the VMware Player as well as VMWare Workstation menu bar disappears, but the menu does not appear in the Appmenu Area.
