[Bug 647174] Re: Since update welcome message appears twice on ssh login & w command does not show any info
I have this happening as well, but it did not start immediately after fresh install of Ubuntu Server 10.04.2 LTS on my 64 bit box. My /etc/motd file looks like this: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS Welcome to the Ubuntu Server! * Documentation: http://www.ubuntu.com/server/doc System information as of Fri Jun 10 13:07:57 EDT 2011 System load: 0.0Processes: 111 Usage of /: 0.6% of 175.86GB Users logged in: 0 Memory usage: 4% IP address for virbr0: 192.168.122.1 Swap usage: 0% IP address for br0:192.168.100.30 Graph this data and manage this system at https://landscape.canonical.com/ Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS Welcome to the Ubuntu Server! * Documentation: http://www.ubuntu.com/server/doc System information as of Tue Apr 19 15:05:18 EDT 2011 System load: 0.05 Processes: 112 Usage of /: 0.6% of 175.86GB Users logged in: 1 Memory usage: 4% IP address for eth0: 192.168.100.30 Swap usage: 0% IP address for virbr0: 192.168.122.1 Graph this data and manage this system at https://landscape.canonical.com/ 11 packages can be updated. 6 updates are security updates. >From the differences, it looks like my /etc/motd.tail file was appended after >I modified my /etc/network/interfaces file to setup bridged networking for kvm. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647174 Title: Since update welcome message appears twice on ssh login & w command does not show any info To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/647174/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 647174] Re: Since update welcome message appears twice on ssh login & w command does not show any info
go into /etc/motd and /etc/motd.tail and clear the contents of the files and save. You will no longer get the old welcome message along with the new one from 10.10 That being said. Even after a fresh install of 10.10 from disk on my 64bit the welcome message is still repeated twice, but since is a fresh install they both the 10.10 welcome msg, so after a fresh install I always have to go and clear the files mentioned above. On my 32bit server I don't even receive that msg anymore I just get a simple Welcome to Ubuntu! * Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/ Last login: Mon Oct 18 14:17:38 2010 from On 10/17/2010 5:10 AM, Anders Olsson wrote: > Not sure about the w command but the welcome message appearing twice > surely must be a bug? [Bug 647174] Re: Since update welcome message appears twice on ssh login & w command does not show any info
I should also add that my mouse and keyboard stopped working during the installation so I had to ssh to the machine, kill the installation process and then run sudo dpkg --configure -a to finish the process. I don't know if this is caused by something that went wrong during the upgrade. -- Since update welcome message appears twice on ssh login & w command does not show any info https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647174 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Not sure about the w command but the welcome message appearing twice surely must be a bug? Or is this expected behavior?
