Thanks for taking the time to report this bug in the upstream bug tracking system this is a tremendous help. Launchpad has the ability to watch lots of upstream bug trackers and this can be done by following the procedure documented at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Watches. I've added the bug watch for this bug report. This bug should have been fixed years ago, it would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. Precise seem to include a (very) new version of this package. filelight currently shows the value of the field st_size returned by the call to lstat. Just to be sure, what you'd like is the number of blocks in (KB/MB/GB, ...) really occupied on disk by the file (always less than apparent size because of reserved blocks and holes) ?
