Leonardo is right. Well, I think that patching the kdelibs is the most correct approach, because, according to http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/qt.html, Qt::Key_Calculator is not mapped on X11 and Qt::Key_Launch1 must be used instead. Anyway, even if the problem is with Qt, your path probably will not be accept, because, as stated in https://bugreports.qt- project.org/browse/QTBUG-25118 Qt5 is meant to have minimum source incompatibility. Therefore, I think this patch must be accept in kdelibs as soon as possible, because, as said before, is indeed annoying have to patch every new version to have the calculator key working. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde-runtime in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/661829 Title: Cannot set up a trigger for the Calculator key To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kde-runtime/+bug/661829/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 661829]
Although this qt patch fixes the problem, I wonder what the purpose of the misspelled calculator constant is for. These constants in qt were pulled from XF86keysym.h from the x11proto package. The misspelled "XF86XK_Calculater" constant which has a different hex value from "XF86XK_Calculator" originated in xfree86 XF86keysym.h revision 1.13 on 11/22/2002: 522. Added support for special keys found on many ACPI control, Easy Access Keyboards, Internet keyboards, laptops, notebooks and PDA (via xkb/symbols/inet). Added new key symbols for these keyboards (Stanislav Brabec). Before that commit, XF86XK_Calculator was the only one that existed. In revision 1.12, the keysym for XF86XK_Calculator was 0x1008FF1D. This is the same symbol that my keyword uses (Microsoft Natural Keyboard 4000). In revision 1.13 that keysym did not change while XF86XK_Calculater was added with a keysym of 0x1008FF54. Strangely enough, the comments for XF86XK_Calculator note that the developer thinks they only apply to PDAs like Pocket PC and Palm while the other keysym 0x1008FF54 applies to "internet keyboards" which is what I guess my keyboard is. I wonder if there are keyboards out there that register the calculator key as 0x1008FF54 instead of 0x1008FF1D as my keyboard does (you can test this with the xev program and looking at the keysym your calculator key emits). In that case, my patch for qt-gui would not work for everyone. I'm thinking that maybe Qt::Key_Calculator should be applied to both the misspelled constant and the correctly spelled one instead.

[Bug 661829] Re: Cannot set up a trigger for the Calculator key
Hello Harald, Sorry for the delay, this is the result from qev: - KeyPress event count 1, key Key_Launch1, modifiers () native scan code 148, native modifiers 16 - KeyRelease event count 1, key Key_Launch1, modifiers () native scan code 148, native modifiers 16 Note that xev properly reports XF86Calculator. Note that http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7-snapshot/qt.html#Key-enum reports that Qt::Key_Calculator is not mapped in X11 for historical reasons, and that Qt::Key_Launch1 should be used instead. For some reason, it seems that kglobalaccel has a problem identifying this key globally, or isn't properly registering the X11 triggers to intercept its press when another window has focus. ** Changed in: kde-runtime (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New ** Bug watch added: KDE Bug Tracking System #263109 http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=263109 ** Also affects: kde-runtime via http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=263109 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde-runtime in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/661829 Title: Cannot set up a trigger for the Calculator key To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kde-runtime/+bug/661829/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 661829] Re: Cannot set up a trigger for the Calculator key
I straced kglobalaccel, and it shows no activity when the calculator key is pressed, while it properly reacts to other global shortcuts normally. Perhaps kglobalaccel doesn't properly translate from the string "Launch (1)" (which is the one saved in the configuration) to the keycode that it must register with X11 to intercept the keypress. Changing "Launch (1)" to "Calculator" in the config files and restarting kglobalaccel as suggested in comment #2 DOESN'T work for me, I don't know why.

[Bug 661829] Re: Cannot set up a trigger for the Calculator key
It would be really great if someone could grab http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=scratch/sitter/qev.git&a=summary and see what it has to say about the key event. It might well be that Qt simply does not support the calculator key (or it is mapped incorrectly within Qt). ** Package changed: kdebase-runtime (Ubuntu) => kde-runtime (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: kde-runtime (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde-runtime in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/661829 Title: Cannot set up a trigger for the Calculator key To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-runtime/+bug/661829/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 661829] Re: Cannot set up a trigger for the Calculator key
Found a workaround here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=837944#p837944 """ I searched for the string "Launch (1)" recursively in my directory ~/.kde and found it in the files ~/.kde/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc ~/.kde/share/config/khotkeysrc In both files I had to replace "Launch (1)" with "Calculator". Oddly enough I had to replace it with "Calculator", though the terminal application xev actually indicates the name "XF86Calculator" for that key. [Bug 661829] [NEW] Cannot set up a trigger for the Calculator key
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-runtime It is not possible to assign an action to the Calculator key in the keyboard (XF86Calculator). The key produces the correct symbol, as verified by xev: KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x4e1, root 0x15a, subw 0x0, time 3196197, (1134,-210), root:(1138,622), state 0x10, keycode 148 (keysym 0x1008ff1d, XF86Calculator), same_screen YES, XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 140 XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False But KDE won't properly register it. To reproduce the bug: 1. Open System Settings -> Shortcuts and Gestures -> Custom Shortcuts 2. Add a new Global Shortcut (Type: Command/URL) 3. Set the Trigger by clicking the Shortcut button and pressing the Calculator key in the keyboard. 4. Instead of "Calculator" or "XF86Calculator", the result is the strange "Launch (1)", that doesn't seem appropriate. 5. Set the Action to kcalc or speedcrunch, and save the changes. 6. Press the Calculator key in the keyboard, nothing happens. It is possible this be a problem with Qt. Further investigation is necessary.
