[Bug 662654] Re: Vertical lines in characters

2010-11-03 Thread khink
I've marked the issue as fixed.

If anyone knows precisely which exact compiz package and release fixed
it, please make it known. (A Google search for
site:changelogs.ubuntu.com 662654 yields nothing.)

I don't think the compiz folks ever looked at the clusterssh bug
directly - there were certainly many other clients that were exhibiting
problems related to the rendering.

I think this has to be the one:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/amd64/compiz/1:0.8.6-0ubuntu9.1

Cheers,
tony

[Bug 662654] Re: Vertical lines in characters

2010-11-02 Thread khink
I am no longer experiencing this bug. The only cause i can think of
(apart from the standard upgrades which keep installing) is that i
removed some remaining kde-related packages (more about that at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1608975).

The removed packages were: kdebase-runtime kdebase-runtime-data plasma-
scriptengine-javascript kdelibs5-plugins

An update of Compiz on 10.10 fixed the problem.

You can also reproduce the problem with the Normal visual effects.

Re: [Bug 662654] Re: Vertical lines in characters

2010-10-25 Thread Tony Mancill
I've done some testing on Ubuntu 10.10 and the problem is immediately
reproducible as reported - i.e. once the user sets System - Preferences
- Appearance - Visual Effects to Extra

A temporary work-around is to hit Alt-r (retile) whenever the
garbage/vertical characters get too annoying. I've experimented with a
patch that automatically retiles every time the user sends a carriage
return. This isn't ideal - the vertical characters still accumulate
while a command is being typed, and it won't help much inside vi or
other editors - but may help folks some until the cause of the issue can
be addressed. If you'd like to try it locally, edit
/usr/share/perl5/App/ClusterSSH.pm and add retile_hosts(); after line 851.

Related to the vertical characters there appear to be other drawing
issues with the effects turned on. For example, some of the status line
in vi is cut off on my terminal.

Regards,
tony

In that case, my .csshrc file might tell you something. (I installed
clusterssh under lucid or maybe even intrepid, the default .csshrc
settings may have changed.)

Thanks for your help khink, tried your .csshrc but I have the same
problem with it, I tried to change the font size but it does the same
thing. I will try to tweak some other settings later to see if it helps.

Sadly it's not a good solution for me since it happens quite often I
connect on 20+ machines so it's very time consuming to resize all the
windows one by one :(

It's certainly reasonable to assume that you wouldn't have to do that.
I haven't observed this issue yet, but once I'm able to reproduce it,
I'll post back if there is a configuration setting or command-line
option that will help. Otherwise, I suspect that this has to do with
some poor interaction between perl-tk and the default display settings
in 10.10 - i.e. I'm not sure that there's much clusterssh can do about
the OS rendering the terminal content incorrectly.

2010-10-18 Thread Claude Gagné
This problem seems to occur only when effects are enabled. It was not
present on Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 with effects enabled.

To solve the text corruption I found that you have to resize each
terminal window one by one.
