Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit Had the slow print problem in 14.04 LTS 64-bit, now upgraded and it's got worse. Now running 30+ mins waiting time for first print of a one page .pdf. I am leaving overnight but I am not hopeful. This happen when I was using maverick but also happen with natty fresh installed (I use Kubuntu). My printer is Brother HL-5150D I'm not sure if it is a duplicated of #668800, my cpu is always below the 10% of use. A possible cause of your problem is Ghostscript (see bug 668800). But also other steps can be the problem. Please run the top command in a terminal window when printing something, to find out which CUPS filter is taking most CPU. Hey, I also have the same problem with my Brother HL-5240. With one driver Brother HL-5240 BR-Script3 it only prints about 3 pages and with the other driver Brother HL-5240 Foomatic/Postscript it takes ages. For 10 pages, it takes up to 15 minutes or more. I never used to have any problems back in jaunty, in lucid I had problems that PDF's weren't printed at all if they contained too many images (which was my main reason to switch to maverick). There are people with the same issues with Brother printers on this thread, and proposing a workaround: http://newyork.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9755270 I was also suffering from this bug with evince: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cairo/+bug/661724 . But with acroread and okular I have the same issues on slow printing. An example file for me is attached to this post, the text in this pdf is copyrighted. Thanks!
