[Bug 681361] Re: [945GM] dual screen crash with total resolution bigger than 2048x2048

2010-12-01 Thread Krzysztof Matusik
Hello again

Tested. When I use compiz without visual effects problem doesn't exist.
I had mutter enabled when the problem was happening, well... I think mutter
_is_ using some compositing or whatever... I've installed compiz-icon to enable
compiz with it. Unfortunately I can't enable those visual effects right now-
with or without dual-head. Any attempt makes windows loose it's decoration and
then things fall back to previous settings. I must say that the 2048x2048
problem was looking quite similar- the X didn't crashed totally, only windows
kept flickering, without its decorations, and then after a while it felt back
to previous settings.
I've installed intel drivers from natty; no difference (although it seems
graphics are working a bit faster :-).

Let me know if there's anything else I should try.

regards

[Bug 681361] Re: [945GM] dual screen crash with total resolution bigger than 2048x2048

2010-11-26 Thread Bryce Harrington
Please collect a full backtrace - see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions.

Does this happen only when you have compiz (aka Visual Effects) turned
on? This sounds similar to a bug we saw reported a lot for 945 where X
would crash because the i945 is limited to a 2048x2048 texture buffer.

Also, if possible it would be helpful if you could test this against
natty, in case the issue is already fixed.
