[Bug 68744] Re: USB Harddrive displayed multiple times
I want to clarify my earlier comments. This only happens *sometimes* and only when the USB stick is inserted before booting or during the boot process. If inserted after my laptop has already booted, then the USB stick is detected and displayed properly as a single usbdisk icon. I've never seen this happen except when the USB stick is inserted before or during booting and even then it doesn't always happen (maybe 80% or 90% of the time?). -- USB Harddrive displayed multiple times https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/68744 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 68744] Re: USB Harddrive displayed multiple times
The same hard drives being displayed multiple times also occurs on my computers. I have three external hard drives formatted in Ext3. Sometimes they will be displayed twice, which is shown in the attached picture. If a drive is unmounted, one shortcut will remain and the other will go away. This can usually be fixed by unplugging all the hard drives and restarting the computer. The two shortcuts to the same hard drive aren't exactly the same. One, the "real" one, has an option to eject, while the other has an option to unmount the volume. The one that has an option to unmount the volume is the one that doesn't go away when the drive is unmounted or disconnected. ** Attachment added: "mulHD.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8274248/mulHD.png -- USB Harddrive displayed multiple times https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/68744 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 68744] Re: USB Harddrive displayed multiple times
I am also experiencing something similar. If I boot my laptop with my usb stick already inserted, then I sometimes end up with two "usbdisk" icons on my desktop. I can eject one of them but not the other one. If I wait until after it has booted, then things behave properly. I'm running feisty with all patches applied (up to last night). My /etc/fstab contains: /dev/sdb1 /media/usbdisk vfat users,rw,nosuid,nodev,quiet,shortname=mixed,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=02,iocharset=utf8,noauto 0 0 Here is the requested command output and an attached tarball with various logs. 06/11 19:09:48 $ id uid=1000(jrw) gid=1000(jrw) groups=4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),25(floppy),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),109(lpadmin),111(scanner),114(admin),1000(jrw) rc=0 ~ 06/11 19:10:24 $ id hal id: hal: No such user rc=1 ~ 06/11 19:10:27 $ id haldaemon uid=106(haldaemon) gid=110(haldaemon) groups=110(haldaemon),24(cdrom),25(floppy),46(plugdev),120(powerdev) rc=0 ~ 06/11 19:10:29 $ uname -a Linux nalini 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Thu Jun 7 20:19:32 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux rc=0 ~ ** Attachment added: "all debugging info requested by https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices, including hal debug output" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8056173/hal_info.tgz -- USB Harddrive displayed multiple times https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/68744 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 68744] Re: USB Harddrive displayed multiple times
Since the bug destroyed the filesystem on the attached drive, I don´t want to plug it in anymore. I saw another bug reports about this here, I´ll search and post a link. -- USB Harddrive displayed multiple times https://launchpad.net/bugs/68744 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for your bug. Could you follow the instruction of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices to get a log of what is happening when you get the several entries listed on your desktop? ** Changed in: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Needs Info -- USB Harddrive displayed multiple times https://launchpad.net/bugs/68744 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
