[Bug 687479] Re: ubuntu-bug crashes on Natty

2010-12-08 Thread Eliah Kagan
When I run an Ubuntu Desktop Edition session, I believe it is actually
*not* a Unity session, because my Natty system is actually a VMware
virtual machine, and it doesn't have drivers for Linux graphics
acceleration as required by Unity. So our experiences may not be as
inconsistent as they first appear.

In any case, my Natty system just received an updated to canberra and
related packages (the libraries), and since then, the problem seems to
have gone away. After fetching the latest updates, has it gone away for
you too?

Hi,
I'm running Unity session (Ubuntu desktop edition) and also to me appears a
window that closes immediately.

[Bug 687479] Re: ubuntu-bug crashes on Natty

2010-12-08 Thread Eliah Kagan
I can reproduce this bug, also on Natty i386, with the same version of
apport, and libcanberra-gtk3-module version 0.26-0ubuntu2 (this is the
package that provides the file /usr/lib/gtk-3.0/modules/libcanberra-gtk-
module.so).

But it only occurs when I am logged in with a Lubuntu session. On the
same machine, when I log in with an Ubuntu Desktop Edition session, or
remotely via ssh -X (including via ssh -X to localhost from a Lubuntu
session), running the command "ubuntu-bug" produces no crash, and the
expected behavior.

When I run apport from an LXTerminal (in the Lubuntu desktop session)
with the command "ubuntu-bug", a window pops up momentarily on the
screen before the crash. The window has "apport-gtk" as its title. This
is the same title as appears in apport windows successfully created from
an Ubuntu Desktop Edition or ssh -X session. So the cause of the crash
appears specific to the Lubuntu session.

@roscio1975: Are you running Apport from a Lubuntu session? If so, and
you are able to run it from some other kind of login session (like from
an Ubuntu Desktop Edition session if you have the ubuntu-desktop package
installed, or from an ssh -X session if you have openssh-server or
similar installed and running), do you still experience this problem?

It seems that this problem might be localized to the package
libcanberra-gtk3-module, but the bug does not appear to have been
reported at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libcanberra.

I have tried reproducing this bug on Maverick i386 and Maverick amd64
systems, and I have not been able to do so.
