2011-05-27 Thread Bill Hayden
I'm still getting this problem with a fully updated Natty install when
logging in via Ubuntu Classic. The unity sidebar appears right on top
of my gnome panel. When I log in via the Classic (No Effects) setting,
it does not occur.

No, that's fine, Just confirmed what I was thinking: it was a timeout issue :)
Thanks!

[Bug 700645] Re: unity and gnome-panel are started on login on ubuntu Desktop edition

2011-01-12 Thread Espinet
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: unity

- Both unity and gnome-panel are run at the same during and ubuntu desktop
- session whereas this choice in the login windows is supposed to enable
- the user to choose between the gnome-panel (ubuntu classic desktop) and
- unity (Ubuntu desktop edition).
+ Both unity and gnome-panel are run at the same time during an ubuntu
+ desktop session whereas this choice in the login windows is supposed to
+ enable the user to choose between the gnome-panel (ubuntu classic
+ desktop) and unity (Ubuntu desktop edition).

On my computer, the gnome-panel is not listed in the startup application
menu but it is still launching on startup, even though it is usually
under the unity panel, it can also be over it (see screenshot). Please
note that issuing a pkill gnome-panel through the terminal shuts down
the gnome-panel for 1 or 2 seconds, but it reapears directly after that.

Also, when the gnome-panel is under the untiy panel (thus invisible) one
can still decipher its presence through the workspace-switcher (from the
unity panel) (it appears on the top of the workspace label, see
  screenshot-1)

fixed this bug !
Only unity is starting now.

2011-01-11 Thread Didier Roche
Thanks for the info, I need 2 things then:

Can you please try on a terminal:
/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test ; echo $?
an print the output (normally 0 or 1) here?

Also, can you try to join .xsession-errors to this bug report once you
got gnome-session 2.31.1-0ubuntu10 which add additional debug message?

Thanks a lot :)

2011-01-11 Thread Espinet
I am sorry I misjudge the use of "opinion" 's status I thought it was
meant to ask the maintainer if the reported issue was a bug from the
package or just a misconfiguration. I will be more careful in further
status change. Thanks for the information.

[Bug 700645] Re: unity and gnome-panel are started on login on ubuntu Desktop edition

2011-01-11 Thread Espinet
I do have gnome-session 2.31.1-0ubuntu9 installed on my computer (verified
through the synaptic manager) and after reinstallation of this package and a
reboot, the problem persists.
I don't know if it is relevant but I noticed that on startup, unity starts
first, displaying it's panel (on the left),and then the gnome-panel starts
(showing at the bottom of the screen, not at the top (the unity panel being
over it))

[Bug 700645] Re: unity and gnome-panel are started on login on ubuntu Desktop edition

2011-01-10 Thread Didier Roche
As I wrote (but Mark can't see that in the plane :)), I uploaded that
Sunday as gnome-session 2.32.1-0ubuntu9, so it's rather fix released,
setting that state :)

Please do not hesitate to report if you still have that issue with this
version.

Re: [Bug 700645] Re: unity and gnome-panel are started on login on ubuntu Desktop edition

2011-01-10 Thread Mark Shuttleworth

The "opinion" status isn't correct, that status is used when the
software is behaving as the desginers / project leaders intend, but it's
reasonable to argue it should behave differently. I'm writing this in an
airplane or would change the status myself, it should be "In progress"
till it's "Fix released" :-)

I don't know if it is just with my configuration or not, but the problem is not
fixed on my ubuntu (see screenshot3)...
