I installed Maverick and than upgraded to Natty and it seems to work, at least for now. It is possilbe tht something i had installed caused this bug. I will open if needed. it seems when i logged in tonight it loaded "Ubuntu Desktop Edition. John, could you just try starting unity form a gnome-terminal (under the "Classic Edition") by typing "unity 2>/tmp/log.txt" and attach the resulting file "log.txt" to this bug-report?
