Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-common
On a Lenovo Thinkpad T60, updating from Dapper to Edgy installs linux- restricted-modules-common. This version of l-r-m does not have a working ipw3945 module so it loads, but wireless does not work. Manually installing linux-restricted-modules-generic and rebooting successfully enabled wireless. This would be a real pain for someone who didn't have wired network access as installing the correct version of l-r-m would be impossible. This is a serious regression that should be fixed. dpkg -l | grep linux-restricted-modules ii linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-10-generic 2.6.17.5-11 Non-free Linux 2.6.17 modules on x86_64 gene ii linux-restricted-modules-common 2.6.17.5-11 Non-free Linux 2.6.17 modules helper script ii linux-restricted-modules-generic 2.6.17.10 Restricted Linux modules for generic kernels uname -a Linux vishnu 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Fri Oct 13 18:45:35 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Dapper --> Edgy upgrade doesn't install proper l-r-m package https://launchpad.net/bugs/70169 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
