I've found a hack to get this working. The file: /var/lib/alsa/asound.state has two important fields set to false: name 'HeadsetL Mixer Voice' name 'HeadsetR Mixer AudioR1' when I manually edited the file and then ran alsactl restore I was able to get sound working. Hi, I've tested this now with a different analog headset and also with a logitech USB headset (to demonstrate that it's not a failed tobi board). All instances it looks like sound is being played but nothing is heard. Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.37-1002-linaro-omap #5-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 20 02:19:36 UTC 2011 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux I tested the speaker on my workstation with the same command and it works fine. I unplugged the speaker and put it into the mic jack just to see if that would work on the tobi but no luck. I suppose it's possible I have a bad tobi.
