This bug was filed against a series that is no longer supported and so is being marked as Won't Fix. If this issue still exists in a supported series, please file a new bug. This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712897 Title: [SandyBridge] Fails to boot livecd when both hd and cd are on SATA III ports To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/712897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 712897] Re: [SandyBridge] Fails to boot livecd when both hd and cd are on SATA III ports
I have a fully installed and patched Natty at June 11, 2011, and while the BIOS can see my CDROM drive, the OS doesn't recognise it. Doesn't seem to be just a LiveCD issue. Will investigate plugging it into different port. Note, the install was done via USB, so I didn't encounter this problem during the install. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712897 Title: [SandyBridge] Fails to boot livecd when both hd and cd are on SATA III ports To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/712897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

milestoned to Natty updates. We are checking with some upstreams on this issue as it affects Sandybridge. ~JFo ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Natty) Milestone: None = natty-updates ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712897 Title: [SandyBridge] Fails to boot livecd when both hd and cd are on SATA III ports -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 712897] Re: [SandyBridge] Fails to boot livecd when both hd and cd are on SATA III ports
Hi Bryce, If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. [Bug 712897] Re: [SandyBridge] Fails to boot livecd when both hd and cd are on SATA III ports
Hmm, I don't think testing the upstream kernel would be relevant in this case. The issue only shows up with LiveCD boots; like I mentioned when booting from an already-installed HDD it's fine even with both DVD and HDD plugged into SATAIII ports. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712897 Title: [SandyBridge] Fails to boot livecd when both hd and cd are on SATA III ports -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The installation proceeded flawlessly after that. + + I found the same issue using an alpha-1 livecd, so seems not to be a .37 + vs. .38 issue. Also, I had been able to successfully boot using an + already installed HD from another computer. I'm not thrilled with that workaround since this is a sandybridge board that Intel says has a design flaw in its SATA II...
