[Bug 715689] Re: RFE: Processes should be monitored for activity not just presence

2011-02-09 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi Rory (I'm assuming this is your name given your LP id),

Not exactly for that feature only, but there's the following:

man powernapd -> Lists the newly added monitors and a brief description of them.
/etc/powernap/config -> Explains the feature and how to enabled it.
Blueprint filed for the newly added changes to PowerNap:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-server-n-powernap-improvements

Now, there's no actual changelog as the development of the new features
we would like to get in natty is still on going. Once that's done I'll
add missing information, blogpost, etc etc. I hope this information
helps.

Regards!

Hi Andres

Thanks for the quick reply and for the information :-)

Is there a bug/blueprint/changelog/something that describes the
implementation of this feature ?

Cheers

Rory...

[Bug 715689] Re: RFE: Processes should be monitored for activity not just presence

2011-02-09 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi there!

Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu and PowerNap
better.

I believe the feature you are requesting is already implemented. This is
called the IOMonitor. This monitor tracks IO activity of a give process.
This monitor is useful for various applications/processes, such as
samba, showing up in the process table and not doing anything useful.

The latest PowerNap release is included in the Ubuntu archives for
Natty, and is also available in PPA for maverick.

To obtain the latest release for maverick do as follows:

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:powernap/paa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install powernap.

PowerNap will install a new config file on which this IOMontior, and
other monitors are explained.

I'm closing this bug report as I believe this feature is already
implemented. If you believe this is incorrect or you want to make a
request for any other feature, you are welcome to do so, but I'd prefer
you do it at the projects web page:

launchpad.net/powernap

Thank you again!
