[Bug 716868] Re: Vlc rapidly leaks memory when pulseaudo output changes

2011-02-10 Thread Erik B. Andersen
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: vlc

If vlc is playing a movie and the pulseaudio output device changes, vlc
will rapidly leak all of the computer's memory.

  Steps to reproduce:
Save all you work (it's hard to recover once vlc steals all the memory)
Start a video playing in VLC.
Open a system monitor to watch memory usage.
Click on the sound applet and then Sound Preferences. Go to the output tab.
While watching RAM usage, change the output device.
If you can, ssh in from another machine and run sudo killall -9 vlc
followed by something like sudo swapoff -asudo swapon -a to get your
computer back to normal.
