[Bug 726902] Re: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity.

[Bug 726902] Re: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity.
I have this problem as well. Unity 2d, which uses metacity, has tearing, while the normal mode, which uses compiz, doesn't. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726902 Title: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity. [Bug 726902] Re: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity.
Well, I also have the problem in Oneiric. It really drives me nut. I tried every combination of xorg.conf settings but could not get a setting with good results. I'm using no window manager at all! I use the User Defined Session option from lightdm and start XBMC from there. Without xorg.conf I have no tearing (because SwapBuffersWait is the drivers default) but an irregular frame rate. Probably because XBMC cannot sync on the retrace in that configuration. When I add Option SwapbuffersWait false to an /etc/X11/xorg.conf and enable VSync in XBMC I get regular frame rates when watching video but always with tearing. The VSync Intel driver machinery on at least the Intel 945GM (first generation MiniMac) is really screwed up. I'm using an HDMI display, I cannot remember having seen this issue when using analog VGA output. XBMC on the same box using Windows-7 works fine, so it is not a hardware limitation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726902 Title: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity. We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726902 Title: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity. [Bug 726902] Re: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity.
Hey llstarks, You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade and re-test if this issue is still present there. If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting the fix, please indicate that. Or if having the fix in the new release is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll close it.) If it's not solved, leave the bug report open. I can't promise we'll get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726902 Title: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity. [Bug 726902] Re: [i945gm] Loss of vsync when using Metacity.
Asus EEEPC 1000H: I did not get tearing-free working in 11.04 so far, it worked with 10.10: Maybe related to that: glxgears: Metacity, Openbox or LXDE: 45 fps (stuttering) Unity - CCSM Vsync On: 55 fps (stuttering) Unity - CCSM Vsync Off: mostly around 60 fps (slightly stuttering) (10.10 all with without compositing 60 + absolutely smooth) I know its not a benchmark but If glxgears fail, other things will fail probably too.
