Hello: I'm one of the people affected by this bug. I've filed an earlier report on this bug, which you can find here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/722039 As indicated in that report, I did try an upstream (mainline) kernel, with exactly the same result. The problem here is a significant one and it appears to be a regression. I paid a lot of money to get a computer from a company that specializes in Ubuntu. The machine worked fine for a couple days and then suddenly started having these hibernate / suspend issues-- possibly as a result of a linux kernel upgrade (that's what the company thinks). Because of the way I use this machine, with frequent breaks of indeterminant length and the need to have a large number of files and applications open simultaneously for my work, plus some revulsion for having a 200+ watt device running continuously, not having suspend / hibernate makes this machine non-viable for me. I'll likely be returning it. I got the machine because my 5-year-old HP computer went from no hibernate / suspend issues (in Ubuntu 8.xx) to system freezes every 3-5 hibernates or suspends (in 9.xx+). More than a year after describing these issues on launchpad, the problem remains. (Granted, it must be very hard to determine and fix problems without access to the specific computers that are having problems.)
