I think this was once fixed by an update, but a subsequent hal update means dapper is still suffering from this bug. Workaround on dapper is downgrading hal. Hi, I use a Kubuntu dapper with kde 3.5.5 I keep it up to date using this repository deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-355 dapper main the package 0.5.7-1ubuntu18.2 broke the automatic mounting for usb drives I still had a prompt from kde to open the drive in a new window but the drive would not appear on the desktop and was not mounted.
