Public bug reported: You can unmount the built in card reader without a problem by right clicking and selecting"eject". But there is also a "Safely Remove Hardware" choice offered. If you select that you get this result: Error detaching: helper exited with exit code 1: Detaching device /dev/sdb USB device: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb1/1-5) SYNCHRONIZE CACHE: FAILED: No such file or directory (Continuing despite SYNCHRONIZE CACHE failure.) STOP UNIT: FAILED: No such file or directory It does appear to unmount as the pendrive icon disappears. I don't know if that selection should not show up in this instance or if it needs to be there for other devices. There is also a pendrive icon on the Unity panel that will not go away until the SDcard is removed.
1) uname -a > uname-a.log 2) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log 3) dmesg > dmesg.log 4) sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log yeilds this output pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Connection timed out 1)lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Natty (development branch) Release: 11.04 2)apt-cache policy pkgname N: Unable to locate package pkgname I don't know where to find this information in the software center 3) What you expected to happen I expected an unmount choice by the way the test question is worded 4) What happened instead You are first confronted by a popup window that recognized that my SD Card had photos on it. Then after right clicking on the pendrive icon on the desktop I was presented a menu with two unexpected choices , eject, and "Safely Remove Hardware". While they both appear to unmount the drive, because the pendrive icon is removed from the desktop, the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature generates this error message: Error detaching: helper exited with exit code 1: Detaching device /dev/sdb USB device: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb1/1-5) SYNCHRONIZE CACHE: FAILED: No such file or directory (Continuing despite SYNCHRONIZE CACHE failure.) STOP UNIT: FAILED: No such file or directory There is also a pendrive icon on the Unity panel that will not go away until the card is removed. It presents you with an eject selection that appears not to do anything. If you need further information just let me know what and how, in simple instructions. Assume I will not understand what you need because that will probably be correct. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/731346 Title: Card reader in Natty A3 right click menu "Safely Remove Hardware" feature -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
