Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

The problem with the maxima interface is still the old sh/bash problem
and is easily solved, I don't know how to solve the problem with the
texmacs interface.

[Bug 73393] Re: Maple interface broken in Ubuntu Edgy

2007-11-19 Thread Andrea Gamba
Since Maple was not listed anymore in the session list, I tried to open
a session by chosing other and maple. At the beginning it did'nt
work for me, but then I discovered the reason: the tm_maple script does
which maple and could not find maple because I had it installed in
/usr/local/maple9.5. I fixed this by making a link to /usr/bin. So it
was essentially my fault. I am citing this story because it may happen
to other people too, since Maple likes to install itself in that kind of
locations.

Actually, that was also the reason of Maple not appearing in the session
list (in Feisty it was found anyway, probably the script looked
explicitly in /usr/local/maple9.5, it would be good to have it still
working that way).

The problem with the missing file has been fixed in Gutsy, the needed
file is now in src.9.

So things are working now with Maple, it just has to be discoverable by
the command which maple, which is a reasonable choice.

The minor problem with the gnuplot interface instead is again the fault
of the infamous sh/bash problem, just change sh with bash in the
appropriate place and everything works well, see also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texmacs/+bug/58498.

[Bug 73393] Re: Maple interface broken in Ubuntu Edgy

2007-09-15 Thread Andrea Gamba
The situation now is much worse.

The plugin for Maple appears to not be even loaded by texmacs, the menu
does not give anymore the possibility to open a Maple session.

I don't know now how to have Maple working with texmacs and Ubuntu now
and I am tired of looking for solutions.

The interface for Maxima is present in the menu but I get plugin not
declared

The gnuplot interface works but it has a minor bug (showing an
unnecessary error message).

Texmacs is a truly innovative program, really good for producing
scientific reports, and unique as an interface to many different
programs of symbolic computation.

It is one piece of free software which does not have a commercial
counterpart, it is really unique and innovative.

But it seems to be orphaned on Ubuntu. Ubuntu users like me see only a
bunch of bugs when they try to use Texmacs as an interface e.g. to Maple
or Maxima. That's a pity.

[Bug 73393] Re: Maple interface broken in Ubuntu Edgy

2006-11-29 Thread Andrea Gamba
The problem is due to a directory which is missing in Edgy. It can be
fixed as follows:

create: /usr/share/texmacs/TeXmacs/plugins/maple/src
copy in that directory the attached tm_maple_9.c file

Then delete the contents of $HOME/.TeXmacs/bin and launch texmacs,
everything should work (with Maple 9.5, at least).
