[Bug 756445] Re: Natty does not allow me to add icons and apps to the panel when in Unity, like system monitor or sensors-applet

2011-05-01 Thread sds
this macintrash unity thing which
-- breaks full screen apps
-- places menus away from the applications they serve
-- removes user-controlled applets (I want to replace the mail/chat junk with
the system monitor and I cannot)
is a sufficient reason for me to move away from ubuntu back to fedora.

[Bug 756445] Re: Natty does not allow me to add icons and apps to the panel when in Unity, like system monitor or sensors-applet

2011-04-12 Thread Alex Launi
we'll be looking for other ways to convey this information. currently
someone is working on a cpu/mem indicator, but we don't plan on going
back to the gnome 2.x way of doing things on the panel.

[Bug 756445] Re: Natty does not allow me to add icons and apps to the panel when in Unity, like system monitor or sensors-applet

2011-04-12 Thread Christian Roessner
I can confirm that it is a problem not being able to add applets.

sensor-applet
cpu freq
glipper
skype
dropbox,
wether-app
...

All these are not there anymore. And yes, I too think this is considered
a regresion bug, because a feature that was known to work is removed
with an upgrade and the user was not asked, if he/she wanted to switch
from Gnome to unity.

Nothing against unity, but important features are missing (only my
opinion).

Re: [Bug 756445] Re: Natty does not allow me to add icons and apps to the panel when in Unity, like system monitor or sensors-applet

2011-04-12 Thread PresuntoRJ
Sorry to disagree a bit... while Unity looks like a regression (and it
does... a lot) I simply hate it

Lets put it this way: My mom will NEVER use it (Launcher, Indicator without
map, weather, Panel, 7 clicks with the mouse for anything usefull, No
desktop access, No workspaces adjust.)

Dont get me wrong, I do get the idea behind it... I use gnome-do... I use
the bash all the time... I type a lot... But its NOT for everyone.

I hope someone realize its a poor idea to force this into the default GUI
while its so bad. I do understand this is still Beta in the main Ubuntu, but
beta is no excuse to stupid decisions. At least, keep the gnome
(Ubuntu-Classic) as a login option.
