I have the same problem when using natty (all updates installed as of today) in Virtual Box 4.0.4 (Windows), using the classic desktop. gnome- settings-daemon crashes about 30 sec. after login, no matter whether the vbox guest additions are installed or not. (The following .xsession- errors is with guest utils.) .xsession-errors says: /etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup... Setting IM through im-switch for locale=de_AT. Start IM through /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL linked to /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/default.
