Occurs on every startup for me also - all indicator applets apart from the power button will not be 'clickable'. The workaround is to click the power button and move the mouse left across the other applets, which shows their menus. Can confirm sound applet freezes and become unresponsive when using Skype and wish to adjust sound, not consistent, a logout usually fixes. I can confirm that compiz --replace fixes the problem for me. For me it's now often only the network manager applet that doesn't respond, but sometimes other applets also fail. In previous versions of Ubuntu (at least all versions that have had the Ambiance theme) there was a problem with the top panel where sometimes the icons in the notification area didn't display correctly, and as a result didn't work properly. With that bug the easy workaround was to increase the panel size to 25 pixels and then decrease it back to 24, at which point the icons would be restored. I can confirm this as well on an upgrade Natty install. For me everything left of the sound applet does not respond (nm-applet, battery applet, monitor applet). I also set the whitelist to all. As a side note I think I found a workaround. I believe that running 'compiz --replace' correct the issue. pkill -HUP compiz may also take care of it. The effects of both commands seem similar. I think I've figured this out a bit, or at least I can give steps to reproduce. (I should note that since I did a clean install of the release version on my eeePC, I haven't had problems - although I haven't really touched the settings either.) On my desktop (fglrx graphics) I can create the problem as follows: 1. Install the blueman bluetooth applet. (I have a Sony bluetooth remote that I can't connect using the standard bluetooth applet) 2. Change the Startup Applications so that blueman runs and bluetooth-applet does not. 3. Change the indicator applet whitelist to allow the blueman icon to appear in the panel. (I set it to 'all'.) After doing this, only the applets from datetime to the right edge of the panel respond to mouse clicks. (At first, only the shutdown button worked. After changing datetime to show the day and date, I could click datetime and memenu as well. Is there anything I can do to figure out what's going on here? The problem doesn't seem to be limited to the sound indicator. On my desktop right now both sound and network don't respond to direct clicks (although as usual, if I click on something that works and then move the mouse over, I can access them). On my netbook, only the weather applet consistently fails to work correctly. As of today, clicking on the clock also sometimes does not work. I have the same settings on an eeePC and do not have the same problems. I can confirm similar behaviour on my eeePC after having applied the latest updates.
