Didn't know of any subsequent problems with later release as I didnt test them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763173 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/763173/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 763173] Re: Xorg freeze
Mazli Alias, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please capture the oops following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Capturing_OOPs ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763173 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/763173/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Install LDM in OneIric, set it as default login manager. Able to go to LDM, logs in and crashed. It reboots after passing the LDM. [Bug 763173] Re: Xorg freeze
Hmm, hard to say for certain what might be going on. Logs would help. Anyway, given that it's something occurring during boot and seems to have some relation to usb or wireless devices I'm going to guess it is a kernel bug. Good to hear at least the -fglrx driver offers you a workaround for now. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763173 Title: Xorg freeze -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 763173] Re: Xorg freeze
Mazli, there's no evidence in any of your log files of either a crash or a freeze (those are two different error conditions btw). Do you have any log files with pertinent error messages? How are you concluding this is an Xorg freeze? The dependency on the internet connection sounds really odd and unusual; can you describe that aspect in more detail? Try booting Classic Desktop (No Effects) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763173 Title: Xorg freeze -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 763173] Re: Xorg freeze
Hi Bryce, I've just got into Linux this year after long hiatus started with Maverick and as such still have getting used to all the components within. Alas forgive me if I maybe wrong in submitting bug, especially considering this my first submission. I currently using Athlon 64X2, MSI motherboard, 780G ( i believe so) with integrated Radeon 3200 256MB shared memory. Basically when I boot Natty, either Live CD or Hard disk at some point it will stop, crash and restart the pc. I can't remember at what point the Live CD will crash ( I may retest when I got home and revert back to you on that), however for disk boot once it reached GDM (login page) it will crash, stop and restart the pc. This is my observation: 1. This problem noticed exist since Maverick ( I can't gauge for previous distros as that's I've started with) 2. I've also face the same problem in Linux Mint 10 (maybe since it's Ubuntu base) 3. It only works (for me) if I put my Android in USB drive, in shared tethered Internet mode. The boot process will crash if it's in other mode (charging, disk dive or sync). In fact even if the phone is in internet mode, but not shared, the PC will crash. That's what made me assumed it's internet related or in this case, needs internet connection for success boot. 4. It crashed during boot process only. If I were to disconnect the phone after successful boot, it didn't crash. 5. Since it crashed at GDM, I can't test booting in Classic Desktop 6. Ironically the problem cease to exist if I upgrade to proprietary fglgx AMD driver (for both natty and maverick) in which case I didn't need to have my phone connected every time it boots. I currently have a working maverick with it installed and working fine. I've also have once installed the proprietary driver in Natty, it works and the PC didn't crash. However since i face with horizontal tearing, I've removed it and the problem reverts back. It's not a big deal to me as I know the solution to it but I've seen the problems logged onto forums. Since I still getting my feet wet in Linux after long hiatus, I'm not really sure what, how or which log to submit. Thanks. Face the same problem since Maverick (In Maverick the boot even crash at Live CD). The boot process will crash at GDM and pc will restart/reboot if I do not have an Internet connection. I do not have a wired Internet connection, just through Android phone tethering...and as such was unable to replicate the process on ethernet network. The problem was somehow resolved if I installed proprietary AMD driver (fglgx)...however since it wasn't stable as it was on Maverick I didn't have it install.
