@Lucian The icons are not per device but for volume. In other words if you have a usb pen drive with two or more partition the launcher should shown two or more icons. You believe wrong. There were two icons in Unity's launcher. I believe this is just showing a link to the drive in two places. On the launcher and on the desktop..
