[Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
11.04is not supported anymore. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. We have tried to recreate this on the latest release of Ubuntu and cannot reproduce it. This bug is being marked as Invalid. If you believe the problem to still exist in the latest version of Ubuntu please comment on why that is the case and change the bug status to NEW. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773482 Title: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/773482/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry about that, my mistake. [Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
Really? Talking about Saucy? Because I am still using it in Raring, and have it installed on my system at the time of writing. Truth is, it does work much better than back in 11.04... So OK for this bug, but really ALL related bugs are closing now? [Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
Add in this PPA: ppa:guido-iodice/compiz-0.8.6-natty Uninstall all Compiz-related items, then reinstall the 0.8.6 versions. This will revert your Compiz back to 0.8.6. However, there will be no fusion-icon (crashes). [Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
I'm having the same exact issues as described above. Every time i try to change something in compiz like (3d desktop cube) I lose control of the Window environment-- the window bars disappear, making it impossible to use the system properly. i cant resize anything as well Here is a screen of what happens with "gnome-classic" (note: this is mint 11. i tried using it thinking i wouldn't encounter this problem again, but alas) Is there anyway to work around this problem that doesn't involve moving away from gnome or compiz? ** Attachment added: "Screenshot.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compizconfig-settings-manager/+bug/773482/+attachment/2143724/+files/Screenshot.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773482 Title: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
Same here. Virtually ANY Enable/Disable action in CCSM leads to compiz crash and then all plugins in CCSM are disabled. This make compiz unusable... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773482 Title: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
I believe I'm having a similar problem. When I attempt to change any settings through Advanced Desktop Effects Settings version 0.9.4-0ubuntu2 (compizconfig-settings-manager). I am a very light user of Ubuntu, so go easy on me. :) Each time I try to tweak a setting I lose the default side bar menu and the system menu that lives up there at the top of the monitor. Being such a novice the only solution I could come up with was to reinstall Ubuntu and not mess with Compiz. Is there a workaround solution if I lose these item again? I'm not planning to mess with Advanced Desktop Effects Settings any more until this issue is resolved, but I'm concerned I may do something somewhere else that impacts Compiz and screws me up again. [Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
The same is with me. I am using classic desktop with cairo-dock instead of bottom panel. Sometimes when i login WM crashes and put me back to login screen, sometimes various applets fail and sometimes the whole desktop is locked - CPU usage jumps to 100%. I am disappointed with Natty as there are many bugs that affect me - i have an impression that Ubuntu became a corporate product where timelines are more important then quality. :( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773482 Title: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
I found it very sad that now I can't change any compiz settings due unpredictable side-effects and so I'm kind of "locked" on some compiz defaults... For example, in ubuntu-classic, I'm unable to set any other application switcher as static oneas after the changes the focus is not properly set to "next" windows by using "alt+tab" shortcut. So you think you are typing in the currently shown window, but the characters are appearing somewhere else -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773482 Title: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 773482] Re: Compiz makes the system unstable in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
Same thing here. I guess it is not because of CCSM, but because of Compiz itself, ie. the window manager itself, and not its configurations window... "aptitude show compiz" says: "Version: 1:0.9.4+bzr20110415-0ubuntu2", which seems to be the latest development (ie. unstable) version: http://wiki.compiz.org/. The latest stable version is 0.8.8, but Natty uses 0.9.4. So basically, no matter if we use Ubuntu Classic Desktop (Gnome 2), or XFCE+Compiz, or KDE+Compiz, or ANYTHING+Compiz, for that matter, in Natty we will ALWAYS have an unstable environment, because of its unstable WM... Basically, I kind of like Unity, and I always liked Compiz. So I was very happy to know that Unitiy will work in Compiz, and not Mutter. But at the same time, I just don't feel like using an unstable WM regularily on my production laptop... I am sure this is something that will be solved by the time Compiz 0.9.4 gets a stable release, but in the meantime, I guess I will have to use a different WM, which means a different environment, too... :-( Is there a way to downgrade Compiz to 0.8.8 for use with Ubuntu Classic or other evnironments (like XFCE of KDE)? I don't really feel like downgrading my whole Ubuntu installation...
I have these problems and more--editing pretty much anything in compiz will duplicate the effects in the linked PNG image and they will remove window menus and title bars, keyboard shortcuts, the ability to move windows... basically it requires a logout/login cycle to function at all. I've found the "Ubuntu Classic" to be a bit more stable but I've experienced the same problems with it.
