rar package in 13.04 is upgraded and this kind of issues should disappear for 13.04 onwards. I can confirm this bug on natty with rar 4.0b3. I tried to pack some directories with Japanese filenames (created by myself using nautilus, so they should be UTF-8) and all archives had just the complete directory-structure (Japanese names OK) without any files. These filenames use the Windows character set, and Ubuntu now uses UTF-8. Hi there, Thanks for your comment, but it shows a small misunderstanding. I am not trying to extract files from an archive, I am trying to create an archive using rar. The ubuntu environment indeed uses UTF-8, and rar use to be able to handle these filename quite fine (as I mentioned, on Lucid and Maverick it works well). There is a regression on Natty, and I assume it is related to the updated version of rar [went from 3.90 to 4.00]). Using Winrar in wine is certainly an option, although I would rather use native applications.
