Hi Pablo,

Thanks for the reply. I still have no solution. I think it could be
xine that's causing the issue. That is the sound and video player used
by Me-Tv. Good to know it's not just me with the problem. I'm in New
Zealand

2011-06-07 Thread Owen Pimm
Hi Hezy,

Many thanks for your reply. I am in New Zealand but don't know of
anyone who uses Me-Tv here, so you could very well be right. VLC player
will play back recorded Me-Tv programmes just fine, but Me-Tv has no
sound. If I attempt to play the recorded programme through Xine, the
same sound system that's used within Me-Tv, I again get no sound. So I
think it could be xine that's the problem. Until you suggested
otherwise I had never considered the broadcast signal. At least it's
good to know someone else has the same problem, I through I was the only
one in the world.

2011-05-21 Thread Owen Pimm
Hi Michael,

Thanks for the clarification. I can confirm that libxine1-all-plugins
are installed. I can record from Me-Tv and when played back in xine
player, no sound is evident. When playing the same recorded programme
back in VLC player, video and sound are all okay. I think my issue is
now with xine and not Me-Tv. Do you agree? Perhaps I should, in fact,
place a new bug for xine.

Look forward to your reply.

Re: [Bug 781031] Re: Me tv has video but no sound

2011-05-19 Thread Owen Pimm
Okay, well I think we've had progress. I couldn't find
libxine-all-codecs but did load another couple of libxine packages from
Synaptic but still no sound. As per your instructions I then recorded
something with Me-Tv. When playing back with xine - no sound. With VLC
player, I had sound - perfect copy. Clearly this is something to do
with xine set-up. I hope this helps narrow down the system issue. In
sound preferences, xine's volume was at the lowest setting, but adjusted
to max, yielded no change.

Well at least I guess we've proved there's probably nothing wrong with
Me-Tv. I hope this helps.

If it does not work then try a different player, vlc or mplayer to see

The way I see it, it could be:

 1. In the audio stream detector (Checked, because you have menu items)
 2. In the stream that that Me TV produces.
 3. In the xine-lib engine or the way Me TV has implemented the player.
 4. In the xine configuration
 5. Hardware (You have sound so that's not the issue)

One final thing, can you please check that you have installed libxine1
 -all-codecs?

Re: [Bug 781031] Re: Me tv has video but no sound

2011-05-16 Thread Owen Pimm
Hi Michael,

Many thanks for coming back to help. I feel I'm now beginning to work
my way round me-tv. I restarted doing all the things suggested
previously, recognising that I needed to change channels at least to
affect the audio driver change. Also, thanks for letting me know how to
properly stop me-tv, that's very helpful. When working through all the
solutions again, I find that I do now have a change in Streams for the
last time I reported to you. I now have a second selection, not only 0:
eng (MPEG4) but also 1: ita (MPEG4).
My audio driver selection is as follows:-
null
pulseaudio
alsa
oss
esd
file
none

Only puleaudio and alsa actually show me-tv working in Sound
Preferences - Applications.

I was still unable to get sound working, however. I then tried doing
the change to xine config file, making a whole new line as you describe
and ensuring it was not commented out. I then tried all the same driver
selections etc. as before, but still no luck. I re-entered the file and
commented out the new line (it's still there) and uncommented the
original Sound Card one, and tried selecting drivers again. Still no
luck. I've returned the file back the way it was, pending your
instruction.

Many thanks for taking the time to help with this issue. I'm sorry it's
taking so long.

Best regards

Owen

Re: [Bug 781031] Re: Me tv has video but no sound

2011-05-13 Thread Owen Pimm
Hi Michael,

Thanks for the response. I found I had not loaded xine-ui. I did so
from the software centre and have run the application. It works just
fine and will load a video file with both video and sound. I guess
that's a little different than receiving a signal from a TV card, but
does show the application is working okay on my PC. Subsequently
running me-tv does not fix my sound issue, however. The issue with
me-tv remains as reported. Does this help?

Thanks

[Bug 781031] Re: Me tv has video but no sound

2011-05-13 Thread Michael Lamothe
This bug is generally caused by one of 2 issues:

* Me TV not recognising your audio stream on a particular channel
* libxine not working with your audio hardware by default

By getting you to install xine-ui I was hoping that it would point out
an issue with the default libxine configuration.

If your audio menu in Me TV has streams then it's not the first issue.
Can you please confirm?

If it's the second issue, try changing the audio driver setting in the
preferences dialog. Failing that `cp ~/.xine/config ~/.me-
tv/xine.config` then try again, failing that open up ~/.me-
tv/xine.config and change the audio mixer device to from Hardware to
Software.

Re: [Bug 781031] Re: Me tv has video but no sound

2011-05-13 Thread Owen Pimm
Hi Michael,

I have slowly worked through the items you suggest. I can confirm that
Me TV has streams and shows 0: eng (MPEG 4). I then went into changing
the audio driver by selecting each of the options away from ALSA on the
drop down list. I did not restart Me-Tv each time I made a selection,
however, I hope this was that okay? This did not result in fixing the
sound issue. As an aside, I'm aware closing Me TV from the X does not
actually stop Me TV running, what's the best way to do this without
re-booting? As this made no difference, I copied across the xine config
file as you suggested in terminal. Now that did make a difference, as
when I restarted Me Tv there was a screech sound for a milli second or
so as it started, but then, nothing. I've popped into the file to set
the audio mixer to Hardware and find that doing so isn't obvious. I
have copied the text lines from the file in the hope you can let me know
the right syntax to use to make the change. I'm aware once I've made
the change, I'll need to uncomment the line to actually make it work.

# Audio mixer control method
# { Sound card Software }, default: 0
#gui.audio_mixer_method:Sound card

Looking forward to your reply.
