My notebook is Thinkpad R61. And when unity crash and can't replace anyway if I'm not restart, then I start openbox and lxpanel. I using ubuntu 14.04 (not 14.04.1). My unity's launcher crash after html5 web page loads, too. Fix will include doing a full screen redraw upon a WM --replace finishing. Workaround is to switch desktop / initiate a full screen redraw manually.
