[Bug 782338] Re: error update to ubuntu 10.10

2011-05-26 Thread RedSingularity
To file the two bugs run these two commands:

apport-bug linux

and afterwards...

apport-bug ubiquity

After you run those commands and fill out the two reports just copy the
URL's and paste them into an email for me. My address is:

Hello,

Please tell me how to open those bugs and how to assign them to you. I
don't have much time to discover this by myself because I have my father
very very ill and i must help my mother to take care of him. And I'm
glad I can help!

2011-05-26 Thread RedSingularity
Excellent! Thank you for taking the time to make those reproduction
steps. Much appreciated!

Can you file new reports for those 2 bugs? The bug about the install
problem should be filed against 'ubiquity (ubuntu)', and the bug about
the problem with the modem should be filed against 'linux (ubuntu)'.

After, you can link me to the bug about the install problem.
Unfortunately I don't have much experience with those 3g modems so I
wont be of help there, but I will have a look at the other bug.

Link me to the new bug report in an email: redsingular...@gmx.com

Re: [Bug 782338] Re: error update to ubuntu 10.10

2011-05-26 Thread fantana gabriel
as for the other bug I told you: On laptop Dell N5010 the KDE freezes
after going in sleep mode while a 3G modem is connected to computer

The version of kubuntu is 11.04 on 32 bit taken from official cd image
on kubuntu webserver.

The bug can be reproduced by following steps:
1. start the computer
2. wait the kubuntu to load
3. attach an 3g modem and configure it. If already done that just start the
modem and connect to provider.
4. Use the connection for a while.
5. Let the computer go in sleep mode.
6. Bring back the computer to working state
7. Try to use the KDE.
You shall notice that the buttons or icons are not responding.
The configuration in which this bug occured is a laptop Dell N5010 stock
version with Intel I3, video card Intel HD, 2 GB RAM.
The bug has a frequence of 3 out of 3, meaning that, in my case, happens all
the time. The only way I could bring my Kubuntu functionality back was to
reboot.

2011-05-26 Thread fantana gabriel
The bug shall be reproduced like this:

1. insert a live cd with kubuntu 11.04 32 bit in your PC
2. choose to boot from cd
3. boot and load live kubuntu cd
4. within the kubuntu run the install to HDD option
5. Follow the steps there
6. Somewhere after partitioning you shall see a crash message.
7.Restart the computer
8 Boot kubuntu live cd and choose to install it in text mode. This should work
smoothly.
This bug happened all the times i tried to use the graphical installation
option.

Re: [Bug 782338] Re: error update to ubuntu 10.10

2011-05-25 Thread fantana gabriel
Hello again,

As for live cd, I was speaking about an installation bug; yes I've
reproduced it 3 of 3. I'm referring to graphical installation option from live
cd kubuntu 11.04 32 bit version. As i told previous, the only way I could
install kubuntu from this cd was to choose text installation. Same bug occured
when I've tried to install ubuntu after booting the live cd. (by choosing the
install option on the desktop). It said that it was a crash and the
installation must be cancelled. I can't make right now a new try because I
don't have the cd with me and I've already installed linux.
By the way, there are quite many bugs inside KDE. The most disturbing one
is that if I have connected to my laptop an 3G modem from a provider and the
system goes in sleep mode or suspend, after switching it back on, all desktop
is fereezed and the only way I can make it work is to reboot. This one happened
12 out of 12. (every timne this scenario is happening).
As  for the install bug I'll try to open a bug in the database.
I hope I was clear enough and please tell me if something is unclear.

Gabi

Your correct, the problem was probably unofficial packages.

As for the update-manager crashing, can you boot the live CD again and
see if you can reproduce the problem?  If you can, start a new bug
report.  You can link me to it if you want.

Thanks.  Closing report.

Re: [Bug 782338] Re: error update to ubuntu 10.10

2011-05-22 Thread fantana gabriel
Hello,

I've made a fresh install of ubuntu and update procedure worked
just fine. I believe the update it couldn't be made because of the
unofficial Canonical sources I've used.

Although while trying to install the fresh ubuntu distro 11.04 from
a CD, the graphical installation interface crashed and the only way I
could install was by text installation. The CD was made form the
original image taken from ubuntu website.
