Same problem here - I also noticed the problem when playing Abuse in the latest stable release of Knoppix, although the problem was not as pronounced as in 'buntu (I'm using Xubuntu Feisty Fawn, Low Latency Kernel - Intel PII processor). I have had this problem as well. I am running i386, Ubuntu 6.10.
