[Bug 784936] Re: Another person with random x crashes on ubuntu 11.04
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 774978 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774978 ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg This first started happening today, 18 may 2011 but no update was done. Randomly, completely without warning, my desktop session will end, landing me briefly at a tty, and then back at a gdm login prompt. I'm able to log back in through gdm and use the system but all previous applications are closed as it's a new session. The magnitude of this problem is obvious as any unsaved work in any running programs is immediately lost when the crash occurs. Seeing the other posts here, I checked my xorg logs and found similar backtraces and ubuntu-bug should have attached those logs. I don't know what else to contribute at this time. + Backtrace: + [ 199.708] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x26) [0x4a2626] + [ 199.708] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x6219a) [0x46219a] + [ 199.708] 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f09b900f000+0xfc60) [0x7f09b901ec60] + [ 199.708] 3: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/librecord.so (0x7f09b69c4000+0x2920) [0x7f09b69c6920] + [ 199.708] 4: /usr/bin/X (_CallCallbacks+0x34) [0x432af4] + [ 199.708] 5: /usr/bin/X (WriteToClient+0x21a) [0x461c9a] + [ 199.709] 6: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri2.so (ProcDRI2WaitMSCReply+0x52) [0x7f09b63abd82] + [ 199.709] 7: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri2.so (DRI2WaitMSCComplete+0x59) [0x7f09b63aa479] + [ 199.709] 8: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so (0x7f09b5e95000+0xd8fb0) [0x7f09b5f6dfb0] + [ 199.709] 9: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdrm.so.2 (drmHandleEvent+0x108) [0x7f09b65b5478] + [ 199.709] 10: /usr/bin/X (WakeupHandler+0x4b) [0x4322fb] + [ 199.709] 11: /usr/bin/X (WaitForSomething+0x1b6) [0x45c786] + [ 199.709] 12: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x2e032) [0x42e032] + [ 199.710] 13: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x21a7e) [0x421a7e] + [ 199.710] 14: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xff) [0x7f09b7f58eff] + [ 199.710] 15: /usr/bin/X (0x40+0x21629) [0x421629] + [ 199.710] Segmentation fault at address 0x7f09b28b0010 + [ 199.710] + Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). [Bug 784936] Re: Another person with random x crashes on ubuntu 11.04
Same problem here - only occurring since upgrade to Natty on Dell XPS M1330 with Intel GMA. Seemingly completely random reboot of X, only I'm not dumped to the terminal but back to the X login. I'm using Gnome rather than Unity. I've attached a log showing the seg fault. Segmentation fault at address 0xa89c470 ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/784936/+attachment/2136367/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/784936 Title: Another person with random x crashes on ubuntu 11.04 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 784936] Re: Another person with random x crashes on ubuntu 11.04
I'd like to add that I too am using regular gnome (ubuntu classic) rather than unity. Unity doesn't perform well enough on my Thinkpad x100e to justify its use (bloated software -- I'm not impressed). Thankfully the old setup is still available. The Thinkpad X100e has a mobile Radeon card in it but I'm not using the proprietary drivers as the open source ones (default in Ubuntu for supported cards) provide better performance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/784936 Title: Another person with random x crashes on ubuntu 11.04 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ubuntu-bug likely grabbed the running xorg log, not the one containing the actual information about the crash. It's attached here. ** Attachment added: previous x session log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/784936/+attachment/2134405/+files/Xorg.0.log.old -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/784936 Title: Another person with random x crashes on ubuntu 11.04 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
