[Bug 785477] Re: kubuntu 11.04 broadcom sta wireless drivers not installing.
Michael Kerwin, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please attach necessary information following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Filing_bugs_when_off- line ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Tags added: natty needs-upstream-testing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/785477 Title: kubuntu 11.04 broadcom sta wireless drivers not installing. [Bug 785477] Re: kubuntu 11.04 broadcom sta wireless drivers not installing.
Hi, I went through a great deal to try to get this puppy to work in Kubuntu 11.04. The final solution - for my rig (HP DV6233se) was to uninstall the bcmwl-kernel-source. I did confirm that the bcm43xx was blacklisted and removed the blacklist - didn't work. No fix on the broadcom sta driver ever worked. So removed sta driver. After installing firmware-b43-installer (which automatically brought in cutter) I could get wireless to work, but I had to log into a terminal every time @ boot up and type in sudo modprobe b43. It was only after removing the above source file and rebooting that my rig came up with a working wireless for Kubuntu 11.04. Hope this is useful for someone else. [Bug 785477] Re: kubuntu 11.04 broadcom sta wireless drivers not installing.
I suggest you need to first uninstall bcmwl-kernel-source (Broadcom STA) too. Starting clean... sudo dpkg -r bcmwl-kernel-source sudo dpkg -P bcmwl-kernel-source sudo rm -f /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf With that all gone, after a reboot you should find that the built-in brcm80211 driver kicks in and should work with your chip. If not, please now try installing Broadcom STA again. And if it fails, collect as much log information and/or screenshots as you can about the failure. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/785477 Title: kubuntu 11.04 broadcom sta wireless drivers not installing. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 785477] Re: kubuntu 11.04 broadcom sta wireless drivers not installing.
None of this helped. When I went to load the sta Broadcom drivers it failed during installation. When I went to the link you provided it said there was a later one already installed and failed to intall it. Now what? [Bug 785477] Re: kubuntu 11.04 broadcom sta wireless drivers not installing.
For your BCM43225 wireless chip, you have a choice of 2 drivers in ubuntu 11.04 that should work: brcm80211 (built into the kernel) wl (provided by the bcmwl-kernel-source package, known as "Broadcom STA") Please start by uninstalling all packages with b43 in their names. Now reboot. If you're lucky then brcm80211 will kick in and you will have working wireless. Otherwise... Try jockey again to install Broadcom STA. If that fails... Use ethernet or another machine to download the latest driver .deb file: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/restricted/b/bcmwl/ (one of bcmwl-kernel-source_5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu3_*.deb) Copy the package to your laptop and install it by double-clicking. Hope that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/785477 Title: kubuntu 11.04 broadcom sta wireless drivers not installing. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
