Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.35-27-generic
Normally, I can suspend/resume with no problems (other than known issues with kontact / kio_imap4) no matter which kernel I am using. However, recently I have noticed that whenever I have kate (kde advanced text editor) open, my computer hangs (black screen, completely unresponsive) just before I would expect it to go fully into sleep mode. After a while the fan starts blowing hot air at maximum speed so I assume the processor has gone into an infinite loop. I tested some of the past kernel versions I have in my /boot partition and found that it works for versions before 2.6.35-24 In summary: 2.6.35-22-generic : suspend always OK 2.6.35-24-generic : suspend always OK 2.6.35-27-generic : Hangs when running kate, otherwise OK 2.6.35-28-generic : Hangs when running kate, otherwise OK Steps to reproduce: Reboot into kernel version 2.6.35-2[78]-generic run kate (N.B. the hang still happens even if there are no files open in kate) close laptop lid or select 'sleep' from K menu ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: linux-image-2.6.35-28-generic 2.6.35-28.50 Regression: Yes Reproducible: Yes ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-28.50-generic 2.6.35.11 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic x86_64 AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23.
