Note that the Asunder changelog (http://littlesvr.ca/asunder/releases/ChangeLog) notes hanging issues being fixed in 2.5. I have had this problem for years; it's still a problem on the latest asunder (2.2-1) on raring. I'm also running in XFCE. This is using Xubuntu.
If I open the disc in Thunar (XFCE file manager), but don't play
anything, then suddenly asunder starts working properly. So there's a
workaround
