I am having the same issue, when the computer goes to screensaver tapping a key or moving the mouse will freeze the screensaver but will not display the login screen. However if I type in my password I can get back to my account. Obviously this is undesirable and won't work for computers shared with multiple users. I believe that this is related to GL screensavers only from info. that I have found on the web; if I use blank screen as my screensaver everything works fine. Follow-up: If I set my screensaver to fiberlamp (a non-GL screensaver) everything works as it should. So this seems to imply that this is a problem only with GL screensavers. We are a few people here at the office that have the exact same problem: Sometimes the login prompt just doesn't show when the screensaver running. We all have Ubuntu 11.04, but only those of us using Unity or Gnome Classic have seen the problem. The guy running KDE have not seen the problem. We have all upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10. When it happens, we can go to the console, e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F1, and kill gdm-session-worker. Then login in again (but we will start with a blank desktop, must restart our programs etc.). I am using the 'GL Slideshow' screen saver.
